Aims
The School Governors and Staff aim to create a secure and encouraging atmosphere by:
- Praise and reward for effort and achievement;
- Showing respect for all;
- Consistent discipline with fairness and without humiliation;
- Openness to discussion;
- Respect for confidentiality;
- Warmth and encouragement in relationships;
- Setting an example of the 'servant-heart' – i.e., an attitude of humility and willingness to serve others.
Practice
These aims are given practical effect by:
- Appropriately generous oral and written praise;
- Daily,
weekly and termly incentives – These are awarded as appropriate on a
daily basis using tokens ('red apple', 'star' or 'owl' stickers
according to class). These recognise personal improvement of work or
behaviour compared to a previous period; overcoming of difficulties;
landmark achievement; and demonstration of kindness, helpfulness, etc.
The number of tokens earned contribute to the award of weekly
Certificates of Merit and to end of term rewards;
- Excellence Board – Any piece of work or special
achievement may be recognised by a special Certificate presented in
full School Assembly. The work is displayed on the Excellence Board for
a week.
