Pupils in Years 2 and 3 are taught in the Lower Juniors Class.
English English Children continue the systematic learning of phonics and grammar. The range of books/genres which they read broadens, and they start to write more complex stories and non-fiction reports etc. Children's reading fluency, independence and expressiveness develops through a range of class, group, partner and individual reading experience. They begin to express greater inventiveness and independence in drama work. |

Mathematics
Practical work continues, but children gain greater expertise in recording their workings. Work is structured according to the Ofsted-approved Hamilton Trust plans. Children are encouraged to develop their problem-solving abilities, and to increase their understanding of the links between different skills, such as addition/subtraction/ division/multiplication. They also develop speed and accuracy in mental maths. Physical Education Children continue to have access to the local gym for gymnastics and dance. They develop their games skills and, from Year 3, have fortnightly swimming lessons at a nearby leisure centre. Topic This is taught according to the whole-school principles already outlined (see "Curriculum" and "Infants" sections). Obviously more is expected of the children in terms of independence and quality of work as they progress into the Lower Junior class, and from Year 2 to Year 3 within the class. Children start to be able to think more abstractly about underlying principles and ideas related to the topic. Homework Homework In addition to their reading books, children receive weekly spelling lists and maths homework. Children also receive topic homework to support their class studies |
