The Nursery is an officially recognised provider of Nursery Education
included in the Oxfordshire Early Years Partnership, which provides
Local Government Funding for all three and four year olds. We are also
regularly inspected by Ofsted. The Nursery is based on the same God-centred principles as the main school. The curriculum is based on the Foundation stage curriculum set by the government but taught from a distinctively Christian viewpoint. The Nursery is well staffed with a teacher, an assistant and up to two daily parent helpers on duty. With the maximum of sixteen children in attendance during the morning session this enables the staff child ratio to be approximately 1:4. The afternoon class has a maximum of eight children with a Teacher and a Helper keeping the ratio to 1:4. |

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
In the context of the values at the heart of the teaching of the Bible children learn how to work, play and cooperate with others. Children learn responsibility and are encouraged to help others within the class setting. Communication, Language and Literacy Using a wide range of methods, including computers, children's skills in speaking and listening are developed as they move on to learning phonic letters, reading and writing. Children regularly take part in a Rainbow reading scheme where they are encouraged to take books home to be read and return them when they are able to retell the story. Mathematical Knowledge Through many varied activities and by using and understanding simple mathematical language, children develop number knowledge, simple addition and subtraction. Knowledge and Understanding of the World The Nursery promotes an understanding of the natural world and society from a Biblical perspective. This gives a foundation for historical, geographical, scientific and technological learning. This is helped by the use of programmable toys, computers and tape recorders. Physical Development Children develop physical control, mobility, awareness of space and large manipulative skills in indoor and outdoor environments. Provision is made to develop these skills by the use of bicycles, stilts, hoops, skittles, beanbags, balls and parachute games. Fine manipulative skills are developed by the use of scissors, paintbrushes, pens, chalks and pencils and varied construction activities. Nursery children regularly take part in the British Association of Gymnastics Awards, which helps to develop action, balance, and coordination. Children are encouraged to establish positive attitudes towards a healthy and active way of life within a framework of Christian values. Creative Development Children develop imagination and the ability to express ideas and feeling in music, movement, art and craft activities. This area of learning includes role-play and imaginative play. Creative activities develop also through experimenting and exploration with ideas and materials within varied activities. Comments from Oxfordshire Early Years Representative "Children are praised appropriately for their efforts and the children seem confident and interact well together particularly in adult-initiated and child-initiated activities." "Children played appropriately and spontaneously in the role play area." "The Nursery looks inviting and interesting to the children with many items available to stimulate discussions and activities." |
